WHO / WHAT ARE THE WARRIORS??

In 2004 the United Cricket Board of South Africa (UCB) announced the Joint Venture Franchise between Border Cricket Board and the Eastern Province Cricket Board. This resulted in the formation of the Warriors – who are currently known as the Warriors. Both the Border Amateur Team and the Jumbos Team play a vital role in feeding the Warriors Squad.

The professional cricket entities, Border Bears Pty Ltd and Jumbos Cricket (Pty) Ltd own their stadiums (Buffalo Park and Sahara Oval St Georges) and their teams (Border Amateur and EP Amateur). In terms of the franchise deal, both companies are equal shareholders in a joint venture arrangement. Border Cricket and Jumbos Cricket still continue to be 100% owners of their respective stadiums.

Border Cricket continues with its programme of placing emphasis on school and club cricket, which in turn, is the nursery for professional cricket. Young players are groomed to play for the Border Amateur team, which feeds the Warriors, and ultimately to play for South Africa (Proteas).

The Warriors represents the whole of the Eastern Cape, through Border, Eastern Province, Kei Cricket and South Western District regions.
